In Acts we have the Jewish church receiving what they already had before the cross John's baptism,and remission of sins but we see in Ac:2:39: For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. In studying the bible we find that when the Jews are the focus we have to join them and their ordinances are everlasting starting with circumcision and water baptism(proselytes)(example:Acts18 Gentiles joined hard the synagogue,we see Justus of the circumcision later in the bible(Col.4:11) ,he was circumcised, and of the Jewish church) according to God's word.So the people we see in verse 39 will become Jews or sheep nations if they want to be right with God, until the diminishing of Israel's church until after our age. There is no doubt God turns to the Gentiles as they reject Him through Acts.In fulfillment Of Jesus prophesy the Kingdom of God will be taken from you(The Jews) and given to a nation(Gentiles with Jewish believers graffed in with us the majority) that will believe.

John's baptism
John's baptism had a two-fold purpose; 1) It manifested Jesus to Israel(John1:31),and 2) it didn't bring salvation but it brought the knowledge of salvation by remission of sins(Luke1:77). So the KJV bible being a self defining book anywhere we see water baptism for the remission of sins we know what it means; like in Acts2:38.Ac:2:38: Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.We see they had the Holy Ghost(John20:22) also before the cross, the only difference is the one manifested by John's baptism was murdered by the Jews,And Jesus ascended so He could be with all the saved. Instead of just Prophets,Priests,and Kings in the Old Testament, by His Spirit.
